Between the 13th and the 20th of September Sheffield General Cemetery will be running activities as part of Heritage Open Days. Come and try our self-guided family-friendly nature and history trails around the Cemetery. Maps will be available to download to your phone so you can explore and keep COVID safe.
Three self-guided walks have been created for Heritage Open Days provide interesting and fun ways to explore and learn about the Cemetery. These are:
Self-guided History Trail – Find out about some of the 87000 people buried here – rich and poor, famous, and not so – and their stories. Each of these hidden people have fascinating tales to tell that include connections from across the globe, experiences of the Great Sheffield Flood, circuses, and murder!
Self-guided Nature Trail – The site is a Local Nature Reserve and is home to many species of creatures and plants… if you know where to look! Let us show you how we look after the nature in the Cemetery.
Self-guided Buildings Trail – Visit the buildings on site and find out more about the design and construction of the Cemetery, including its associations with ancient Egyptian and Classical mythology.
Visit the General Cemetery’s pop-up cafe and SGCT book stall Sunday 20th September.
