A fascinating walk which explores the different stones to be found in Nether Edge. Scott Engering, organiser of the Sheffield U3A Geology Group, will lead the walk. It starts from the Brincliffe Edge Rock Quarry face at Chelsea Heights in the old Baldwin Omega restaurant car park. The walk includes Chelsea Rd and Union Rd as we slowly make our way to the Kenwood Hall Hotel on Kenwood Rd. Max. 24 people

Have you ever wanted to learn more about Sheffield’s history? Why not start with a fascinating glimpse into Sheffield’s Victorian past on our guided tour of this Grade II* listed historic Cemetery. Meet the residents who shaped Sheffield’s history, from Mark Firth and Samuel Holberry to the Cole Brothers and George Bassett, and many more. Discover the stories behind some of our 87,000 burials, see the French-inspired catacombs and the listed monuments & structures including the recently restored Samuel Worth Chapel, in this unique and historic Victorian landscaped ‘Garden Cemetery’.

Event starts at The Gatehouse, top of Cemetery Avenue, Sheffield, S11 8NT.

The walk will take between 2 to 2 1/2 hours and is being led by three, now retired, Geologists. Meet next to the Forge Dam Cafe, Brookhouse Hill, Sheffield, S10 3TE in the Porter Valley to explore the extraction and processing of the minerals once found there. Please wear suitable footwear and bring a waterproof coat as the walk will go ahead even in inclement weather.

Following the success of last year’s event, Nether Edge Festival is delighted to offer a second dose of ‘Pus’, in which Jenny Rudd shares her infectious enthusiasm for the gruesome history of the world’s deadliest killer smallpox.

As part of Nether Edge Festival come and learn about the lives of women, rich and poor, linked to Sheffield General Cemetery.
